Training
————————-
I created a fountain and completed the contract with Dyne.
For some reason, Dyne is saying, “We’re partners, right?” while linking arms with me.
Somehow, it feels different.
“Yuta, congratulations!”
“Kyuuuu!”
“The contract is amazing!”
“Kukuku.”
“Thank you, everyone.”
While stroking Bell, who leaped into my chest, I express my gratitude to the spirits who are celebrating.
Rain, in particular, seems delighted that I formed a contract with Dyne, constantly rubbing its cheeks against me and making cute noises.
I wonder if they are happy because there are more water spirits now? If I were in their position, I would feel anxious if someone more skilled than me came to fulfill my duty.
But the difference in nature between the spirits and me… Their pure hearts make the ugly hearts stand out, which is troublesome.
Playing with the spirits, walking on the water’s surface, I head towards Sara and the others who are looking surprised.
It must have surprised them since it started suddenly.
I was also surprised by the unexpected turn of events.
“Master! He’s walking on the water’s surface! Hey, Master, can I do it too?”
Marco, who snapped back to his senses, asks about walking on the water’s surface as his first words.
I understand his feelings well.
It’s something to admire.
“Dyne, can any water spirit walk on the water’s surface?”
While still linking arms and saying things like “It makes me shy,” receiving the spirits’ blessings, I ask Dyne.
“Well, let’s see.
For floating spirit-class spirits, it’s difficult on a rough water surface or for extended periods, but it’s not impossible.”
I convey what Dyne told me to Marco as it is.
“Yay! It’s so cool to walk on water.
Hey, Master, I want to form a contract with a water spirit next.”
“Someday.
Right now, it’s important to get along with Uri.”
I plan to have them form contracts with various spirits eventually, but for now, they need to establish a solid foundation.
They say that the basics are important for everything.
I skipped many things with cheats, but I want these children to solidify their fundamentals and improve.
With advice from Silphy and the others, they should become amazing spirit mages.
“Understood! First, I’ll get along well with Uri!”
Marco seems more childish and adorable than usual, probably due to his excitement.
I hope he can become someone I can talk to like this every day, rather than being on edge with his guard up.
“Master, the water took on various shapes and was very beautiful.”
“It was beautiful.”
Sara and Kika seem excited after watching Dyne’s fountain show, their faces flushed.
It seems the children really liked it.
When they asked me to create it, I had some reservations, but maybe it’s thanks to Dyne.
“Dyne, since Sara and the others seem to like it, could you show us something else?”
I was focused on the contract, and I didn’t see the whole show because I was in the middle of it.
“Hehe, my first job.
Onee chan will do her best.”
Come to think of it, that’s right.
It’s a good thing I can ask Dyne for favors without resorting to pretentious acts.
While lost in thought, the water show began.
Water gushed out from the fountain, transforming into various animals.
If I could contract with a light spirit, it might be really beautiful to illuminate the fountain show at night.
I thought it would be a hassle, but fountains are quite nice.
I should apologize to Dyne later for complaining.
Instead, I’ll offer my thanks and praise for completing the contract, while pouring drinks.
It wouldn’t be good to confess honestly or complain about the hassle, as it would only cause trouble.
Sara and the others are cheering as they watch the fountain show.
The spirits, along with Fukuchan and Uri, are frolicking in the spring.
They seem to be having a great time.
As I leisurely watch the fountain show, Dolly approaches me.
“Yuta-san, now that the contract with Dyne is complete, would you like to contract with me next?”
Come to think of it, I’ve also fulfilled the contract conditions with Dolly.
What should I do?
“Well, contracting with another Great Spirit back-to-back seems a bit wasteful.
How about tomorrow?”
“Hehe, understood.
Let’s do it tomorrow then.
Also, this is not a condition but a request.
Could you fill the block on the north side, where you finished digging, with soil?”
“I can do it right away, but why?”
“It’s a secret.
Silphy and Dyne are adding some production value, so I’ll do my best too.”
Dolly smiled mischievously with a hint of playfulness.
The elegant young lady had taken on a devilish charm… It’s delightful.
However, I had heard about Silphy’s direction, but it seems Dyne also added some flare.
I feel like the fountain was requested for the performance… I hope it’s just my imagination.
“Well, I’m looking forward to it, but don’t push yourself too hard.”
The smile on Dolly’s face returned to normal, and she politely smiled.
It’ll be alright… I hope.
Suppressing the anxiety that I myself couldn’t quite understand, I returned my gaze to Dyne’s fountain show.
———–
“Alright, we’ll train until dinner.
Kika hasn’t formed a contract with a spirit yet, but she’s been listening to our conversations.”
“Yes, Master.
We’re finally going to train, huh?” “…”
Sara responded seriously, while Marco, perhaps caught up in the excitement of the fountain show, replied like a boy.
Kika nodded silently.
“Yeah, but it’s not as strict as calling it training, so you don’t have to worry too much.
The important thing is to clearly communicate to the spirit you’ve contracted with what you want them to do.
First, I’ll mediate, so let’s firmly decide what Fukuchan and Uri can do, as well as the signals and words we’ll use.”
Once the signals and words are decided, it’s up to the spirit to do the rest, so being a spirit magician seems pretty overpowered to me.
But I guess that’s probably the most difficult part.
If the instructions from a spirit magician, who hasn’t established proper communication, cause misunderstandings or uncontrollable actions, their reputation will plummet.
The spirit magician would be disliked and become an unpopular profession… It’s truly disheartening.
They explained and demonstrated the magic that Fukuchan and Uri can use, and decided on various signals.
They tried to come up with a simple method because the more complicated it gets, the more mistakes can occur.
“Hey, Master, is it really okay for it to be this simple?”
Anxiously, Marco asked.
Was there some issue? Uri was shooting stone bullets exactly as Marco instructed, though.
“You’re doing it correctly, right? Is something bothering you?”
“But it’s magic! Don’t we need to chant more complex spells or undergo strict training? Is it really alright?”
Marco seemed to have imagined something like the ascetic training performed by mountain priests when he heard the word “training.” Perhaps he became anxious because things were progressing too smoothly without much hardship.
It would be nice if I could prepare difficult and arduous training, but I’ve never done anything like that myself, so it’s impossible.
The only things I can barely come up with are fasting or walking under a waterfall, but I doubt if those would count as spirit magician training.
“Well, maybe Marco is misunderstanding something.
It may seem easy because I mediated the most difficult part of being a spirit magician, but it’s actually challenging.
Without means of communication, it’s tough to convey your own will to the spirit and have them use magic for you.
I think other people have a harder time.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah.
Fukuchan and Uri are able to use magic smoothly because Sylphy brought floating spirits who can communicate well.
So, consider yourself lucky and do your best.”
Actually, I have no idea what I would do if I formed a contract with a wind floating spirit like Marimo, who recently flew over from the land of death.
That child didn’t seem to have a will of its own, so I might not even be able to form a contract.
Although I managed to somewhat convince him, Marco still had a face full of questions.
It’s good that it’s simple, I think… Well, the doubts will probably fade away once he becomes capable, and I just have to steadily gain their trust.
It seems like my lack of an imposing presence as a master is hindering me.
“Alright, onto the next training.
Turu, can you create several humanoid figures out of earth?”
Turu nodded and the earth began to move, forming several clay mannequins.
I thanked Turu, and he responded with a smile.
Lately, Turu has been in a good mood with Fukuchan and Uri around.
I noticed that he had gotten fluffier without me realizing it.
It’s definitely heading straight down the path of becoming a muffler.
“The zombies and skeletons we’ll be fighting from tonight are humanoid.
For zombies, aim to crush or sever their heads.
For skeletons, shatter the magic stone in their heart, and they’ll be defeated.
So, let’s practice targeting those humanoid figures.”
“Zo-zombies and skeletons? Master, are we going to fight undead creatures?”
Sara looked at me with a serious expression, as if asking, “Are you serious?” I can understand how she feels.
I still wonder if it’s appropriate for the children’s first opponents to be undead creatures.
But apart from them being repulsive, they move slowly and are weak, making them ideal for beginners to practice against.
Except for their strong odor and the fact that only their magic stones are salvageable… Oh, and the fact that they were once human might make it a bit aversive.
I gazed at Sara and the others with a serious expression and explained the advantages of fighting undead creatures to convince them.
Even I feel a bit wicked, but I think it’s safer than facing goblins or something in the dungeon.
There might be a potential for it to become a bit traumatic on the psychological side, but that would be the same even with goblins.
“Alright, let’s start with Sara.
First, imagine the zombie and aim for the head.
Then, imagine the skeleton and target the heart.”
“Yes, Master.”
Sara looked tense, pointed at the humanoid figure, and gave the command, “Fukuchan, Wind Blade.
Head.” Fukuchan responded to her words, flapping its wings and releasing a blade of wind.
The head of the humanoid figure fell off.
Next, Sara commanded, “Wind Bullet.
Heart.” A compressed ball of air blew apart the heart of the humanoid figure.
…I feel like the training could end here.
Next, Marco also tried, easily crushing the head and piercing the heart.
After that, it’s just a matter of leveling up and getting used to the magic Fukuchan and Uri can use.
…Huh? Is my role already finished? No, there must be something else I should teach them.
“That’s the basics.
By brainstorming with your spirits, you can create new magic as well.
However, I want you to be careful.
Spirits are not your slaves.
If you get too carried away, they might abandon you, so let’s establish a minimum level of courtesy and get along with them.”
I ended the training with a somewhat difficult statement.
All that’s left now is the main event after dinner.
