The Sand Ogre bearing Lin Huang reached their original location within a short moment, however the fatty was nowhere to be seen.

“What is that fatty doing? Don’t tell me he went to look for me?”

Judging from the tracks on the floor, he deduced that the fatty had really done so.
Hopping onto Tyrant once more, he rode off after the fatty.

As he approached the spot where he left the Hellminth, he recalled Tyrant and spied at the location from the top of a nearby sand dune.
He poked his head out and peeked at the spot.

There was no sign of the Hellminth or fatty.

“That Hellminth’s gone too…” Lin Huang furrowed his brows, he couldn’t make sense of this situation.
“Given fatty’s speed, he couldn’t have gotten far in 10 minutes.
Perhaps he changed direction midway.”

He summoned Tyrant and started searching the surroundings as well.
However, after exhausting all possible locations, he finally gave up.

Leaving the area, Tyrant continued east. 'The fatty might be dead somewhere, his body food for that Hellminth…' Thinking about this, Lin Huang’s heart sank.

They finally reached the base of the snowy mountains after a few hours of traveling.
While they had met with monster attacks a few times, Tyrant swiftly took care of it.

Lin Huang quietly pitched his tent and set up camp.
Leaning back on a rock nearby, he took a piece of jerky from storage space and chewed on it.

This jerky was given to him by the fatty.
He made this on the side during their meal preparation to prepare for their journey up the mountain.
He said it was hard to cook while they were in the mountains so it was best to prepare beforehand.

As he ate the jerky and drank from his bottle, the sun slowly set and the sky darkened.

The skies were clear tonight and the stars shone brightly behind the pitch black canvas of the night sky.
From time to time, a few meteors could be seen streaking across the sky which reminded Lin Huang of a saying from Earth.
“Everyone has their own star.
When someone died, that star would fall from the skies and become a meteor, burning itself out in a blaze of glory.”

“Fatty, if you are really dead, I’ll take revenge for you.
Once I get stronger, I’ll wipe out all the monsters in that desert.” As he finished saying this, he took out his water bottle and splashed the water out in an arc in front of him.

“This water is an offering for you, since I have no wine on me, just bear with it for a while.
Once the exam is over, I’ll buy a bottle of wine and make it up to you.”

As he paid his respects, he gazed into night sky.
Another meteor streaked past.
His eyes silently trailed the meteor as he solemnly sent it off.
He summoned the backup ogre to guard him before heading into his tent.

Got to get a good night’s sleep to prepare for tomorrow’s trek up the mountain.
Lin Huang kept his clothes on as he dozed off.

The next day…

Lin Huang woke up at approximately 7 in the morning.
After washing up, he packed up and began his trek.

The area surrounding the mountain base was still relatively flat and devoid of snow and ice.
In order to conserve his stamina, he got Tyrant to piggyback him.

“Climb up slowly, there’s no rush.”

Tyrant’s body was not suited to mountain climbing so he could only carry Lin Huang through flat areas.
In mountainous terrain or frost covered terrain like the snow mountains, Tyrant was more of a burden.
If he tried to climb the mountain, it was likely that the mountain ledges and grips would rupture under his weight.

Tyrant carried Lin Huang for slightly under an hour, in this time they had reach an altitude of 3,000 meters, past this point the terrain became covered in snow.

Tyrant was recalled and Shirou came out instead.

The silver haired Shirou silently stared at Lin Huang as he awaited his next order.

“We’ll climb the mountain together, if there’s any area I can’t scale, pull me up.” Lin Huang was well aware that scaling this snowy mountain was the biggest hurdle for him in the exam.

Goddess Ridge’s lowest altitude was 6,000+ meters and had a maximum altitude of up 12,000 meters. The association’s designated safe route through the ridge went through one of its main peaks which had an altitude of 8,000 meters.

With his non existent climbing background from Earth, this was a huge challenge.
Plus he was the only non-BlackIron in this test, in terms of stamina and strength, he was at a decisive disadvantage.

If it wasn’t for his passive skill, Giant’s Endurance, boosting his strength by 200%, he really didn’t know if it was even possible for him to overcome this hurdle.

In actuality, Lin Huang had considered getting Shirou to transform and use his Blood Energy to tow him up the mountain.
However, he dismissed this idea as he wanted to challenge himself.

Shirou nodded his head as he accepted the command.
With a few graceful motions, he had climbed several meters high.

Lin Huang put on his gloves and followed the path set by Shirou as he began his climb up the mountain.

Shirou’s climbing speed was really fast but every 1-2 meters, he had to stop and wait for Lin Huang to catch up.
While he climbed, he left marks for Lin Huang to indicate safe spots.
With their similar physique, areas Shirou could cross, Lin Huang could naturally cross as well.
These marks made Lin Huang’s climb up the mountain significantly easier.

The pair continued in this manner for another 600 meters.
If this had been flat ground, it would have taken only 10 minutes but since it’s not, it took 5 whole hours.

Having spent a good portion of his stamina, he gave a new command to Shirou, “ Find a safe spot.
Let’s take a break and recover our strength.”

Shirou nodded.
He transformed into his vampiric form and fashioned a Blood Blade out of his wings.
He began carving a tunnel into the mountain face.
He stabbed his blade as far as he could, around two meters in depth, into the mountain face before carving out a cube two cubic meters in size.
He continued digging till the tunnel reached a length of 10 meters.

The winds weren’t able to reach this far in so the inside was relatively warm.

As Lin Huang sat in the tunnel, he retrieved the jerky from fatty and began having his lunch.

He considered giving Shirou some, but he remembered Shirou only drank blood so he reconsidered.

After finishing a jerky the size of his palm and re-hydrating himself, Lin Huang had rested enough.
With a wave towards Shirou, the duo continued their climb.

Another 5 hours passed, Shirou helped Lin Huang climb another 700 meters.
They had a momentary respite as the the sheer mountain face mellowed into a snowy plateau.

Seeing that the sun was about to set, he chose to stop climbing.
He set up camp and prepared to rest for the night.

Their current altitude was 4,800 meters.

He pitched his tent, set up a fire and began stewing some meat.

The sky began to grow darker as the sun set.
Lin Huang couldn’t help but miss the fatty and his cooking as he stared at the fumes coming from the meat stew.

The stew began to boil and after half an hour, the raw smell of meat was soon replaced by the fragrant smell of meat stew.
Lin Huang knew that the stew was about ready.

He scooped a bowl for himself and began eating.
However as he took a few bites, Shirou suddenly moved.
With a flash, he grabbed onto something and started walking towards Lin Huang.
He had caught a tiny white furry monster…
