CHAPTER 150: AND ANOTHER FIRST STEP AGAIN

As I open the sturdy-looking door and enter the Adventurer’s Guild, I hear the buzzing and talking of adventurers, and I thought, “Huh?” The sun has already risen some time ago.
In my experience, the Adventurer’s Guild is usually more packed in the early morning, so I took my time before coming to the Guild so that I could enjoy the high-class inn for as long as possible, but even at this hour, there were still many adventurers.

Feeling curious, I checked inside the guild and saw about twenty adventurers in an area with tables and chairs on the right side.
Some men and women were talking with serious faces, others were chatting in groups, and one man was just leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, doing nothing.

I wondered what they were doing at this time of the day.

With a bit of uncertainty, I went to the reception counter in front of the building and told the young woman sitting there, who was an animal-eared girl, what I needed.

“I would like to apply for adventurer registration, please.”

“Yes, then please fill out this form.
I can also write on your behalf.” (Receptionist)

She rummaged through her desk and found a piece of wood, which she placed on the counter table.

I pulled the piece of wood close to me, declined the offer to write for me, and picked up the quill she had prepared.

Now, I’m going to register as a new adventurer in this town.

And I will be reborn as a different Rook.

It would be technically difficult to keep track of all the members of the adventurer’s guild and share the information among the various guilds.
The guild card is just an ordinary wooden or metal board with a minimum amount of information that adventurers voluntarily declare on it.
There should be no function that links the guild card to an individual.
A low-rank guild card would be easy to counterfeit because of its material.

In other words, the guild card is nothing more than that, and it should be impossible to find out if I was previously registered with the Adventurer’s Guild in a town so far away.

The only thing I’m worried about is the existence of an artifact.
If it’s actually an Ooparts-like mysterious item that manages all the personal information of the guild members, I’ll have to leave somewhere… There’s nothing we can do about that.
It’s a dead end. [T/N: オーパーツ or “oopatsu” or “ooparts” or “out-of-place-artifacts” usually fantasy items/tech that is beyond understanding and really powerful.]

I handed the piece of wood to the receptionist while thinking about such things.

“You’re Rook, right? You are 15 years old, and your attributes are unknown.
Your special skill is… cooking, is that right…?” (Receptionist)

The receptionist read out the piece of wood with a puzzled look on her face.

I thought it would be a little strange if the contents were exactly the same as my previous guild card, so I thought of changing some parts.
No matter how much I thought about it, I am already quite attached to my name, so I don’t want to change my name.
If I have to, there is no choice but to change my attributes and skills! It may have been a bad idea to write it so haphazardly.

But I didn’t want to write down the attributes because I heard that it’s rare to have a light attribute, and then I couldn’t write magic as a special skill either.
I can use a sword, but I’m not that good at it.
There is a difference between swords and katanas.
Since it came to that, the next thing I’m good at is cooking…

“Cooking… People usually write weapons they typically use… Is this really it?” (Receptionist)

“Oh, yes, I’m good.”

“Are you sure? This is a very dangerous job, you know?” (Receptionist)

 The receptionist anxiously asks me.

It’s hard to argue just because I can feel her good intentions… While I was feeling a bit troubled, a voice came from my left.

“Isn’t it fine, he said it’s fine right? Then he’ll make do with it.
That’s a rule of the Adventurer’s Guild, right?” (Adventurer)

“Nick-san… that’s true but…” (Receptionist)

The receptionist called the 175 cm tall person by Nick.
I could see cat-like ears on top of his black hair, and a long black tail swinging from his waist.

Could he be a cat-type beastman?

“I understand how you feel, but being an adventurer is all about personal responsibility.
It’s the freedom to live and die by your own efforts.
Or will you be able to take care of him?” (Man => Nick)

“Well……” (Receptionist)

The man called Nick said to the receptionist, “Then you know what you have to do, don’t you?”, then he left to go to the other adventurers.

“Sorry…” (Receptionist)

“It’s fine…”

With a bit of awkwardness in the air, I received a wooden guild card with the letter “F” written on it from the receptionist.
Now I’ll have to start all over again, and I’ll have to stay in this town until I get to E-rank.

This is where my first step begins, again.
